Medical talk shows focus more on talk than medicine, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Medical talk shows focus more on talk than medicine, and there is nothing wrong with that. Before anything else they are talk shows made to entertain.
Health is an important topic and we worry about it every day. It is no surprise that medicine has become entertainment. Medical media comes in many forms: TV dramas (Grey's Anatomy), comedies (Scrubs) and talk shows (Dr. Oz, The Doctors). What is becoming more and more difficult is for the public to know what is entertainment and what is quality medical advice.
Now more than ever the public has more access to medical information. Doctors used to be the gate keepers for this information but, thankfully, due to TV, the internet, books and magazines, this is no longer the case. I say thankfully, because an educated public is an empowered public. What is important for the public to know is that not everything you read, hear or see is scientifically or medically sound. Talk to your doctor or a trained medical professional to help guide you through all the tips, recommendations and advice that is out there.
